The Half Marathon is making a second comeback. In 2006, Race Director Richard Maher discussed having a half marathon along with the full marathon in Eugene. Portland Marathon Race Director Les Smith was against it for Portland, as he felt a half marathon event would subtract from the main full marathon. In 2007, '08, and '09, however, the Eugene Marathon ran contiguously with the Eugene Half Marathon, and with great success. Apparently, such success is of the essence to be duplicated, as the Portland Marathon is following suit. In 10-10-2010, the Portland Marathon's Inaugural Half will be held in conjunciton with the Portland Full Marathon.

Meanwhile, the Eugene Marathon is enjoying a slight change of course, finishing on the historic track at Hayward Field. "It has been a goal of ours since the initial planning in 2005 to finish on Hayward Field," said R.D. Richard Maher, "We feel this is going to make it an even more momentous experience for the participants." Indeed - open up those green gates.

And, along with the Half Marathon on May 2, 2010, that runs in conjunction with the Eugene Marathon, the same group putting on this event are adding another half marathon, to be held in Eugene on September 5, 2010. "We want to have the best schwag for our runners and walkers of any event in the Northwest," said R.D. (and two time Olympian) Nicole Teter. "Stylish gifts, champagne and a spa at the finish line." The Eugene Women's Half Marathonstarts in downtown Eugene and finishes at the 5th Street Market. Finishers will be greeted with wine tasting, chocolates, a yoga studio, and a Gervais Spa experience.

Speaking of Half Marathons with Girl Power, the Tenth Annual Helvetia Half Marathon, June 12, 2010, is now available for sign-up, and is limited to 5,000 participants. The women's-only Hippie Chick Half is sold out for 2010.

ORRC held Oregon's Premiere 100 Miler September 26-27, 2009, the Hundred in the 'Hood. It was met with great success, but the race committee has decided to forgo another round in 2010 in order to focus on their other great success, the 50-Mile PCT Ultra. However, another 100-Mile race will soon open up in Oregon, if you are so inclined. Hal Koerner of Rogue Valley Runners, who runs the Lithia Loop Marathon, (the 2009 USATF Marathon Trail Championship), will soon bring forth a new 100-Miler, the Pine to Palm 100 Mile Endurance Run, on the weekend of September 18, 2010.

The ORRC is gearing up for it's Annual Run, the Y2KX, featuring a 10K run / walk and a 20.10K run on Sunday, January 3. This gives you plenty of time to sleep in on the first and second days of the year. Also, renew your membership, or sign up for a new membership, and receive a reflective vest.
